At his own request, we have terminated the contract of our Icelandic left-back Aron Pálmarsson by mutual agreement. He will leave Veszprém at the end of the season and retire from professional handball. Despite this decision, he remains fully committed to give his best for the rest of the season and to fight for his third Hungarian championship title with One Veszprém.

The Iceland international played for Telekom Veszprém for the first time between 2015 and 2017. He returned to the club at the end of October last year at the request of our head coach Xavier Pascual, after a serious injury to Yehia Elderaa left us in urgent need of a left-back with international experience.

Pálmarsson, now 34, approached the club's management on the last days and, in a gesture of true sportsmanship, expressed that he no longer felt able to contribute to the team at the level required to achieve our goals due to his physical condition. He has taken the initiative to terminate his contract, putting the interests of the team first - a request we respect and will honour.

During his two stays in Veszprém, Aron Pálmarsson played 99 matches and scored 287 goals for the team. He won two Hungarian championship titles and two Hungarian Cups (2016, 2017) and was part of the team that won the SEHA League in 2016. He helped us go through to the EHF Champions League Final Four twice, reaching the final once. In 2016 he was voted the most valuable player of the Final Four.

"An athlete's career is not only determined by his playing ability, but also by his personality. I think our player Aron Pálmarsson showed true greatness when he contacted us in the last few days and indicated that he was not ready to contribute to the team at the highest level in the future, given his health situation. His contract was for another year, but he asked for it to be terminated and, difficult as it was, I think Aron made the right decision. I sincerely wish him all that he has achieved in his sporting career and hope he will find his fulfilment in civil life, but knowing him as a person, I have no doubt about that," said Dr. Csaba Bartha, our club's CEO.
