„Being a professional handball player was always my dream”

Beside Roland Mikler, Hungarian Handball Federation awarded another player of ours, Serbian left back Momir Ilic. He was awarded as the best international handball player of the year in Hungary. We made an interview with him.

Congratulation Momo on winning this award! What was your first thought when you found this out?

Thank you very much. I’m glad but I think all of my teammates deserve this award because my performance also depends on them and they help me a lot. I’m very satisfied with the achievements of our team. It’s apparently a huge thing to be acknowledged but as I always said I’d like to win trophies with my team. This is what I’m mainly dreaming of.

If you had to rank the years of your career, where would you place last year?

It was great but I wouldn’t say that it was my best season because I had good periods in Germany as well. Moreover, I think, I can give more to the team and we are able to become better and get higher and higher.

What were last year’s most important moments for you?

Being in the quarter-finals in Champions League and getting into Final Four. These are what I would highlight.

What does having Christian Zeitz in MKB-MVM Veszprém mean to you?

I’m very happy to have him here because we have been good friends in Kiel. He helps us a lot on the court and also out of it because he is a great player and has a positive personality.

If you had to highlight someone in the category you won, who would it be in Hungary?

Renato Sulic. He was one of our best players in the previous season and now he’s still performing great.

When you look back at your earlier years as a young handball player, what was the moment when you realized you would become a professional player?

It’s a hard question. I don’t exactly remember. Being a professional handball player was always my dream, I wanted to perform as good as currently and to play in front of such audience like in Kiel or Veszprém. These moments are really special for a sportsman.
