In the 4th round of the K&H League, we travelled to Budaörs to face the newly promoted Budai Farkasok-Rév team.
We started the match with Descat, Remili, ElDeraa, Zein, Pechmalbec, and Elísson on the court, Corrales in goal, and Ligetvári ready on the bench. Our first goal came from Bjarki Már Elísson. Coming into this match after a demanding international schedule, the team was understandably a bit fatigued — yet the opening minutes were played at an impressive pace. A strong team is developing here in Budaörs, one that even Szeged could only beat by five goals recently. The home side played well, moving quickly in attack, with Kristóf Mátyás orchestrating their play effectively. At 5–5, they caught up to us after we had led by one or two goals early on. Rodrigo Corrales continued his outstanding form from Egypt, saving around 40% of the shots, while Yanis Lenne — making his debut goals in a Veszprém shirt — extended our lead to five with some beautiful finishes. Coach Kiss called a timeout, but the Wolves couldn’t close the gap, and we led 15–22 at halftime.
The second half began with the home team in possession. We lined up in defense with Dopjera, Ligetvári, ElDeraa, Zein, Pechmalbec, and Elísson, Corrales in goal, and Remili waiting to come in. Pechmalbec scored the first goal of the half. As the second period went on, the gap widened — by the 44th minute, Remili made it a ten-goal difference (22–32). Soon after, Adel and Martinovic came on from the bench. In the final ten minutes, there were no more questions left — we defeated a well-organized and likable opponent convincingly. Final score: 26–45.

XAVIER PASCUAL
It was a difficult match for us because we came here after an intense period with a lot of travel. I really hope people understand what I mean when I say that with such a tight schedule, we are putting our players at risk of injury. Every coach wants to use his best lineup, and we didn’t want to take that risk today — not out of disrespect to our opponents, but to protect our players’ health. I know sport is also business, but this is something worth thinking about.
As for the game — we played professionally from the first minute, using four back players, showing full respect to our opponents. The result today isn’t the most important thing; more important was, for example, Yanis’s return and strong performance.
As for our opponents — they are young, talented players who played very well. It wasn’t easy against them, and we had to work hard, just like Szeged did. I can say one thing: everyone should be careful when playing this team, because in this arena, it won’t be easy.
YANIS LENNE
As Pasqui said, it wasn’t an easy match, especially after such a demanding week. We took the game seriously and played well. It was important to keep our rhythm, and I think we managed to do that today.
SZILÁRD KISS JR.
First of all, congratulations to Veszprém. I think many of their players are used to this level of intensity — they play in the Champions League or for their national teams — but I completely agree with what was said about injury risk. Everyone has to manage their own level; their goals are completely different from ours. They played at a very high pace, and that’s why our mistakes were more visible — but we’ll learn from them, which is what matters most. I wish them all the best!
MARINO MARIC
First of all, thank you to Veszprém for a fair match and for their kind words. That’s real motivation for us. We want to improve game by game, and for us, every match feels like a final.
