This is the Episode 0. of the Coffee Time. We asked Máté Lékai to speak about his favourite topics and a little bit about himself. Check this [emoji17]

We are aware that you’re not a big coffee-guy. What do you usually drink when you go somewhere with the team?

Usually, I drink water or a glass of coke, but you are very much correct, I don’t drink coffee.

Who do you spend the most time with during these „gatherings”?

Naturally, I have the best relationship with the Hungarian players, or the actual Hungarian players so to speak. But I spend a lot of time with Gasi, Gasper Marguc who has been my teammate for 10 years; we even played together for two years in Celje. Besides them, I also spend time with Lauge, Mahé... Actually, the whole team’s chemistry is very good, so it does happen that the whole team goes somewhere together, go to someone’s house for a BBQ party or we watch an NFL, NBA game together. Fortunately, we have such activities frequently.

What does Máté Lékai do when he’s truly relaxing?

I spend time with my son, with my family.

Do you guys visit the playground or something else?

Exactly, we spend our time on the playground or we go for little trips. The kid loves churches and when I ask him where he wants to go on a trip, it’s always the church, the church. For some reason, churches are his current obsession. We have genuinely visited all the neighboring churches, he loves them.

So, he is a real man of culture...

Yup. Exactly that...

We know that your horoscope is Gemini. Do you think the Gemini characteristics are specific to you?

By and large yes, if we consider the fact that I quickly get bored of things and I can get unfocused easily; I tend to jump from one thing to another, from one topic to another. Regarding other Gemini characteristics, I am not really familiar with them.

Do you believe in astrology, horoscopes and what not?

Not really, but these really apply to me. Once I researched Gemini personality traits and I have to give them credit for this... but no, I don’t believe in horoscopes.

You grew up in Budapest. How did you manage to adjust living in Veszprém?

That’s true, I grew up in Budapest, but my mother is from Ajka; she was born there and lived there until she was 17. Furthermore, my grandfather is from Ajka as well, and my grandmother lives in Ajka this very day. So, I do have some strong ties to the region, when I was young, I spent a lot of time In Ajka with my grandmother and in Szigliget with grandfather. I attended a lot of Veszprém matches in the Március 15 arena... so these are my ties to Veszprém. I have been living here for 8 years, my wife is from Veszprém, and my child was born here as well. All in all, I love this city and it’s really close to my heart. It’s completely different from Budapest, but both places have their own beauty.

What kind of music do you listen to?

I am not a big music enthusiast to be honest, but if I had to choose, I’d probably say oldie Hungarian songs, like all Hungarians. But I am not a big music consumer.

Let’s shed light on something very important, who is the team’s DJ? We have heard a lot of names, Mahé, Liget and so on... Whenever we ask someone, it’s always me, me, me... Who contributes the most to the team’s music consumption?

We usually listen to music during gym sessions and right before matches. We’re split into two groups in the gym; in the group that I am, it’s usually me who operates the music. Before matches, when we’re in the dressing room, once again it’s usually me who supplies the music… usually because no one else wants to. J So, there isn’t one designated person who chooses our music, like Roli Mikler back in the day. We randomly choose songs and just let’em rock!

If you weren’t a handball player..., would you be a QB or Wide Receiver? (American Football positions)

QB, without a question. (Quarterback is the playmaker in American Football.) I don’t think I would be a good receiver. Not to say, I’d be a world-class quarterback either, but... I’m not sure if I would even play in Hungary. If I had to choose between these two positions and I was going to College in the U.S, I’d be a QB, without a doubt.

Where did the obsession with American Football come from?

This is quite an old story, the first match I ever saw, was New England against Philadelphia on Sport TV. Back then, our channels only broadcast the Superbowl. I have been following the NFL since then and I love it even more to be honest; even though my favorite team is the Indianapolis Colts, who haven’t had much success in recent years. It’s been a dream of mine, to attend an American Football match. We have been to one in London with some teammates... but I’m sure it’s a completely different atmosphere in America, for example on Lambeau Field.

Spring is just around the corner, have you cleaned your bike yet?

Yes, I have, if the good weather persists, I will park my car for good and I will go to training via bicycle or my electric roller.

Where do you usually go on trips or go biking now that Spring is here?

Being a professional handball player, you don’t get much time to do such things, we’re pretty worn down at the end of the day after two training sessions and two games a week. However, in the summer we did go on a bike-trip to Tihany, Balatonfüred and Balatonalmádi, with Dime (Dimitar Manevski) and one of our colleges from the club; we visited some viewpoints around Lake Balaton. It was amazing, I wish I could go more often, but we only have time for such activities in the summer.

Let’s talk handball a bit as well! What are your expectations for this season, how far can Veszprém go? What are your expectations towards yourself?

This is the period we call „money-time”, the period where everything is decided. These are the matches we fight to reach each season. Naturally, our goals are the same as they have always been, to win everything. We can begin the winning-streak next week in the Hungarian Cup. We already won the SEHA-League in Autumn, but considering everything, the cup finals in the spring are much more monumental, so I hope we can win. Regarding my own expectations, I hope I can leave my injuries behind as soon as possible, so I can help the team as best as I can.
