Telekom Veszprém will be the guest of Aalborg Handbold on Wednesday in the EHF Champions League. The game against the Danish champions will start at 18:45 and will be broadcasted live by Sport 1.

Tomorrow we will face Aalborg for the third time in the history of the Champions League. So far we are balanced between each other, because in the 2017/18 Group phase, we met twice and after a 30:24 victory at home, we lost in Denmark 29:26. Máté Lékai was the top scorer of our team on both games: he scored seven in Veszprém Arena, then finished with six goals in Jutalnder Bank Arena.

The Danish are currently on third spot in the group with four victories and two losses. The kept an unbeaten series of four games in the beginning of the competition after beating Celje, Motor, Zagreb and Nantes respectively, before losing to Kiel and Barca in the last two rounds. The top scorer of our opponent is Jonas Samuelsson with 26 goals.

Aalborg is leading the domestic league with a really narrow advantage of one point before GOG. Our of their 12 games, they won 10 times, finished once to a draw and lost only once, but that time against one of their biggest rival Bjerringbro/Silkeborg. The last game they played in the Herre Handbold Ligaen was on Sunday when they beat Ringsted 39:24 at home.

The Danish champions signed six new players over the summer. Simon Gade came from Holstebro, Sebastian Henneberg and Lukas Sandell left Elverum, Nikolaj Laeso signed from Arhus, Felix Claar came from Alingsas, while Jonas Samuelsson arrived from Skanderborg. On the other hand almost a full starting lineup left the club, most of them went to the German Bundesliga.

Telekom Veszprém played in the Hungarian championship last time in Eger on Friday. The game ended in a 21:40 comfortable victory for Veszprém, with the help of Dejan Manaskov who scored nine times. In the Champions League the “Építők” visited Kiel in the last round, where they finished in a 31:31 draw after a close and exciting game.
