Telekom Veszprém – RK Celje Pivovarna Lasko match will be held in the EHF Champions League on Wednesday at 18:45. The game against the Slovenian champions will be broadcasted live by Sport 1 from the Veszprém Arena.

Celje is an old acquaintance; we have met them 14 times already in the Champions League. The history of the two parties shows an overwhelming Veszprém dominance, as besides one Celje victory and a draw, there are 12 Hungarian victories. The last time the Slovenians managed to win against us, was in 2007. All in all, it means Veszprém leads Celje 25:3 in regards of won points against each other.

Our upcoming opponent did not start well in this year’s Champions League. So far they lost three games out of three appearances and are in the last position of the group with 0 points, in the company of Zagreb and Motor. The truth is, they lost to Barcelona in Spain, and against Kiel on home court, signaling that their first few games were not the easiest ones. Their third loss was suffered against Aalborg. Their top scorer in the series is young Josip Sarac with 12 goals.

Celje is currently leading the domestic league unbeaten. Behind them is Trebnje, who are also unbeaten but played a game less than the champions. Celje’s last game was played against Jeruzalem Ormoz last Saturday where they won confidently 30:37.

Over the summer six new players came to the Slovenian handball capital, while five left to seek new challenges. The new players are: Filip Ivic from Gummersbach, Veron Nacinevic from Zamet, Tadej Mazej from Velenje, Radojica Cepic and Arsenije Dragasevic from Rudar Plevlja, while Tim Cokan will get the opportunity to prove amongst the first team players, coming from the academy of Celje. The departing players: Klemen Ferlin, Domen Makuc, Diogo Silva, while Stefan Zabic and Filip Rakita will spend the season loaned to Maribor.

The last game of Telekom Veszprém was played in the Hungarian championship, and with what result. They only conceded 11 goals, thanks to the help of our goalkeepers Vladimir Cupara and Rodrigo Corrales who saved with 75% and 59% respectively. The last Champions League game was against Motor Zaporozhye, in away, where the result was a 34:37 victory for Veszprém with forgettable defensive performance.
