Foreshadow: Veszprém – Csurgó

Telekom Veszprém will host Csurgói KK in the K&H League on Wednesday at 18:00. The game will be broadcasted live on M4 Sport.

Last season, because of the abrupt stop of the championship, we only met Csurgó once, on home court. Veszprém took matters into their own hands and started really well, piling up an 11 goals lead by half time. The second period started off as it was finished in the first. The home team’s dominance shows in the 36:20 final result as well. Our top scorer was Manuel Strlek with 9 goals.

Csurgó will start the K&H League fight against us. Their last preparation game was against Budai Farkasok, which they won 34:20. During their pre-season they met Lomza Vive Kielce, amongst others, and managed to only lose by an overtime penalty.

Our upcoming opponent strengthened the roster with five new players this summer. The newcomers are: Péter Tatai from Lübbecke, Ivan Popovic from Granollers, Marcell Gábor from Budakalász, Mladen Krsmancic from Anaitasuna and Grega Krecic from Koper. Meanwhile Rok Zaponsek, Aleg Astrashapkin, Klemen Cehte, Gafar Hadziomerovic, Gregor Potocnik and Marko Tarabochia left the club.

In the lest season, Csurgó finished on 7^th position, but because of the short season, all result were deleted and the final classification was made by the 2018/19 season. In that last mentioned season Csurgó finished on European Cup position, however, according to the last season, it should have been Gyöngyös who qualifies to Europe. Csurgó willingly stepped down from their right and gave it to Gyöngyös for this season. This was a one of a kind, unselfish deed, which is unprecedented in Hungarian handball!

The “Építők” played their last game against Budakalász, opening the new season in the K&H League. The game started a bit shaky for the home team, but for the second half, Telekom Veszprém took over and won by 11 goals, 35:24.
