In the 9th round of the VELUX EHF Champions League, Telekom Veszprém will host PGE Vive Kielce on Saturday at 17:30. The game will be broadcasted live by Sport 1.
We would like to take revenge on Kielce, as a few weeks before, we suffered a one goal defeat. The teams were equal in the first half, the advantage was bouncing from one team to another. The half time result showed equal numbers as well, 17:17. In the second period, the home team did not take five minutes to gain a two goals lead, and even doubled the lead ten minutes later. Veszprém managed to stand up from this and evened out the game to 29:29, but Kielce used their chances better and in the end took a 34:33 victory. Top scorer of Veszprém was Dragan Gajic with seven goals.
Since then, Kielce played two Champions League games. They doubled with Vardar at the turn of the group stage. In Macedonia, the parties played a 28:28 draw, closest game possible, then in Poland, Kielce took a massive win of ten goals against the reigning champions, 35:25. Our next opponent is currently on fourth spot in the group with the same amount of points that make us third. This shows the importance of the clash over the weekend. Top scorer of Kielce is Alex Dujshebaev with 39 goals.
Our upcoming opponent is on second place in their domestic league, trailing Wisla Plock by three points. They played in the Ekstraklasa last time on Wednesday, hosting Azoty-Pulawy. Even though the guest won the second half, Kielce win at the end with a 34:31 result.Top scorers of the team in the PGNiG League are Blaz Janc and Arkadiusz Moryto with 54 goals each.
Telekom Veszprém played in the SEHA – Gazprom League last time, on Tuesday, against Metaloplastika Sabac in the Veszprém Arena. The game ended with the home team’s victory of 36:29. In the Champions League, the “Építők” played last Saturday on home court against Meshkov Brest. They managed to win 31:25. The top scorers of that game were Gajic, Nenadic and Strlek with five goals each.
