A few weeks ago, the Fans voted on the best players of Veszprém’s 43 years of history, position by position. In line player, the four times Hungarian champion and Hungarian Cup winner, three times Champions League finalist, furthermore five times VELUX EHF FINAL4 participant Andreas Nilsson came out on top. We continued our interview series with him.

You were voted into the 43 years All-Star team of Veszprém. What did you feel when the results were published?

I was a little bit surprised but I am really proud of it. It is a big deal for me. It is nice that the Fans appreciate me, and I am trying to do my best in my job. It is really honoring for me.

You have been playing in Veszprém for 6 years. What is your favorite memory from this period?

There is a lot. Winning is one part, to be with this team for six years, is something else. It did not change a lot, so we have been together for long. All the people around the Club, and also the Supporters are amazing. It is more than a memory, but the team and the organization is the coolest thing that happened to me in my career.

Besides the success, there must have been bitter moments also. Are there things you cannot recall happily?

I think anyone who played in the Champions League final against Kielce, will say the same thing. It is the worst memory I have ever had so far.

Because of the abrupt ending of this season by the pandemic, you moved back to Sweden until the start of the new playing year. How does it feel to be back home?

We drove back to my girlfriend’s parents directly, because there was no available flight. We drove to the North of Sweden, which took around 22-24 hours from Veszprém. It was a hard trip, so we hope that the train between Hamburg and Vienna will run by the time we have to come back, which has a place for cars as well. Anyway, we have been here for 14 days now, my girlfriend’s parents have a huge farm, around 200 acres of land, where my son can run around and there are plenty of things to do. Just perfect.

What is your message to Veszprém Fans?

I hope everyone stays healthy and is able to keep a normal life, regardless of the circumstances. We miss you a lot and we hope to see you as soon as possible. Take care and see you soon!
