László Nagy about the SEHA Final4 weekend

The Sports director of Telekom Veszprém, László Nagy, was unfortunately unable to attend the SEHA – Gazprom League Final4 last weekend, after testing positive for COVID-19. However, he still followed the team and was in contact with the team through phone and messages. We asked him about the conclusions of the final weekend, and about his health.

How would you rate the SEHA Final4 weekend?

I was in daily contact with the coaching staff and the players, we talked a lot before and after the game. Thank God, the things I saw on trainings came back for the semifinal and final. It was palpable that this game has a meaning and the players attitude was according to that. I am happy that the quality training we did now showed up in the games as well, and the things Coach Davis tells them have appeared.

A lot of players were involved in this trophy, starting from our departing players and almost the entire youth academy. What would you say to them now, after we reached the very end of the competition?

Congratulations to everyone involved, and we are grateful for those who cannot take part in this in Veszprém jersey, but still helped us in the group phase. They are part of this success and we congratulate them. We cannot forget about our youth academy, who took three games instead of us. I think that those games were really useful in their improvement and their international experience. Our academy had a massive chance to prove, while our first team could get some rest, or do some training instead of travelling.

To who would you dedicate the SEHA title?

To anyone who loves our Club, and is a loyal supporter. I would definitely highlight our Fans, and our sponsors, for standing by the team and our Club even in such a hard financial situation.

Champions League will kick off next week, and we have some Hungarian championship games as well before that. What do you expect from the upcoming weeks, months?

As a player I always had the same philosophy – always prepare for the upcoming game, and I stand by this even as a sports director. Every game will have a huge importance, and we will try to win every game. At home, in the Veszprém Arena, only the victory is acceptable, we have to aspire to that, while collecting points from away games as well. The Champions League will start next week, a Hungarian championship game before that, where we expect the same solid performance from the team, they did in the semifinal and final of the SEHA League.

After dr. Zoltán Csík announced that you were infected with COVID-19, it ran through the Hungarian and European media as well. How are you? How do you cope with the illness?

I am fine luckily, and have no symptoms at all. We made the decision with the board to reveal my name as the infected of the team. Everyone deserves the respect to not be victim of guessing. I am at home in quarantine and I do my job online and through the phone, both at the Club and in the Federation. I can say that I am in mandatory home office!
