The game started slowly for Veszprém, with the first goal of the match scored by Mitar Markez for PLER. Early on, we also missed a penalty as Elísson’s shot was saved by Bősz. The home fans had to wait until the 4th minute for the first Veszprém goal, when Hesham broke through and finished precisely. Even after Elderaa’s strike, the visitors remained in front (2–3), so the opening phase was a close contest.

During the first quarter of an hour, the battle stayed tight, with Veszprém mostly trailing by one. In the 14th minute, Elísson finally put us ahead for the first time (8–7). In the latter part of the half, we managed to keep that advantage – although we couldn’t create a large gap just yet, the overall flow of the game gave no reason for concern. The good form of the left wingers continued: on Thursday, Hugo Descat had provided the spark, and this time Bjarki Már Elísson carried the momentum.

As halftime approached, Veszprém began to establish a more comfortable lead. Appelgren was steady between the posts, while Ali Zein repeatedly punished the empty net from distance with clever long-range strikes. By the end of the half, the margin was close to double digits, though in the final minute Zein received a two-minute suspension after a foul. Despite this, Veszprém closed the first half with a commanding 21–12 lead, though the second half began shorthanded.

Right from the first attack of the second half, the ten-goal margin was secured as Dopjera scored, further extending the advantage. Appelgren remained in goal and started confidently, while the visitors brought on Kránitz. In the 8th minute, Appelgren pulled off two huge saves, making it clear that scoring past him would be difficult on the night.

Although there were occasional minor defensive lapses, the overall display was more than enough – the 30–17 scoreline midway through the half reflected how Veszprém outpaced and outpowered their opponent. On the wing, Dopjera was clinical with his long-range efforts, while Zein and ElDeraa constantly posed threats in attack, leaving no doubt about the outcome. With Appelgren’s reliable saves as a backbone, the team dominated the match from start to finish.

The final seconds brought no drama, and One Veszprém HC claimed a convincing 42–21 victory in their first home league match of the season.

Congratulations to Veszprém, I wish them the best of luck in the Champions League and in the domestic league as well. We have already played against Szeged and Veszprém, and for us these matches were more about preparation. I was able to give opportunities to young players and those who usually get fewer minutes. Of course, it would have been better to achieve a closer result, but for us Komló is now the real priority.

Congratulations to PLER! I know it’s not easy to start the league against Szeged and Veszprém, but they are a great team, working really well. I think we didn’t start the game well, but the team reacted quickly — we brought more aggressiveness and dynamism into our play. I was happy to see our young players get plenty of minutes today.
