In the last Machineseeker EHF Champions League match of 2023, we played at the home of Orlen Wisla Plock. The host started the match with great pace, which paid off, Plock took a 2-0 lead after goals from Zarabec and Lucin. After Marguc's penalty in the 7th minute, the score was already 4-4. After that, Xavi Sabaté's team dominated the game again and managed to win with a 4-0 run (13th minute 9-5). Thus, Momir Ilic called a time-out. After the stoppage of play, the four-goal home advantage seemed to stabilize, until the 21st minute, when after Fazekas' fourth goal, the scoreboard was already 14-8. Ilic called his second time-out, after which the picture of the game did not change much, Jastrzebski continued to defend in an inspired manner, which the Poles took advantage of from the front (27th minute 17-10). The difference did not change until the break, so we waited for the continuation with a seven-goal deficit.

At the beginning of the second half, one or the other team scored, so the difference did not change (34th minute 20-13). In the continuation, our game showed a tendency to improve, which had a result, as we closed to four after Descat's fifth goal. At 27-22, Ilic called his third time-out. Even after that, it was not possible to get any closer, Plock kept the result well (50th minute 29-24). Turning to the crunch time, the essential part of the match was already decided, as we did not manage to get closer than six. In the end, we suffered a 37-30 defeat in the last Champions League game of the year, which dropped us back to third place in the group.

Xavi Sabaté: Congratulations to my team, we played fantastic today. We played handball very smartly. We beat perhaps one of the best teams in Europe. Our defence was great with Jastrzebski in the goal. We were able to take advantage of that. We knew they could come back into the game at any moment. However, we continued to play well and smartly. Last season we had 5 points at the end, now we are halfway through the season with six points. We go on. I wish Veszprém the best.

Momir Ilic: Congratulations to Wisla, they played very well today. This is an unexpected defeat for us, we did not start the match well. I had to call a time-out twice. The hosts played very smartly, led long attacks and their 7 on 6 game worked very well. Today was not our game. Congratulations once again to Wisla Plock!

Dawid Dawydzik: We fought for 60 minutes, and it paid off. We did well against one of the strongest teams. We really needed these points, we are very happy. I wish Veszprém all the best in the future.

Hugo Descat: We started the game very badly. Wisla played smart handball, especially in the 7 on 6 game, which gave them a big advantage. Plock deserved the win today, no doubt. I congratulate them and wish them all the best in the future!
