MKB-MVM Veszprém’s right wing, Gasper Marguc regrets that he did not get into the Slovenian squad which travels to the Qatar World Championship. In spite of that, he is trying to see this negative experience as an extra motivation. He is glad that he can train again with his teammates in Veszprém, and also satisfied with his physical condition. We made an interview with “Gasi”.

Gasper, how was the winter break?

I didn’t have too much time to rest, because preparation started on December 22nd so I had days off only on Christmas and New Year’s Eve. Unfortunately, I couldn’t go to the Championship but it would have been good. Later our coach, Ortega called and gave me 5 days off, and then I joined the others. This was the only time to be at home so it was great. As I said, I’d really wanted to take part in the World Championship but now it means an extra motivation to me to work harder so that I will be able to play in the next world competition.

There was an online voting in your country through which fans chose the best Slovenian handball player of 2014. The contest for 1st place was tight but finally you won second place with minimal difference.

Yes, it was tight; at the end the difference was probably 1% but I’m not sad about that since Celje’s playmaker, Zarabec won. He is a good friend of mine and he deserved it. I hereby would like to thank my fans for voting.

You are back in Veszprém. Trainings began and you had your physical test. Are you satisfied with the results?

Yes, I’m satisfied; I had almost the same results like in the beginning of the season. I had been preparing for the season opening back then; I’d been in good form and had great achievements. In the light of that, I think, the current result is quite good. The others performed similarly, as well. Being in the middle of the season, it is definitely sufficient.

You can be with your teammates again and you started preparing for the rest of the season. What do you expect from the next couples of weeks?

I’m happy to be with them again, obviously. Now we were able to train a lot concentrating a bit more on fitness and condition. Besides, we are practicing tactics. The team works hard.
