Telekom Veszprém started really well at the EHF Champions League Match of the Week against Kiel. From the first six offense, Veszprém scored five time, leading 4:5 after 5 minutes. Cupara was outstanding in goal, Sagosen and Ekberg both missed chances. Although Kiel could escape to a two-goal lead, with Nenadic on court, Veszprém’s offense freshened up, and equalized quickly. The result was 10:10 in the 15th minute. The „Építők” reached a two-goal advantage for the first time in the 22nd minute, with Marguc making it 12:14. Sagosen was the most efficient from the Germans, and scored six times by the 25th minute. Veszprém held the advantage up until the half time, hence Jicha called a time out. His tactics did not work, the result stayed 18:20.
 
Telekom started the second half where they left off in the first half. They led great offense, and Cupara saved well to keep the two goals lead. Kiel managed to equalize in the 38th minute, 22:22. This did not last long, with Cupara saving a penalty and Yahia scoring two quick goals, de difference was two goals again. The game went into a crazy run, which led Veszprém to technical mistakes, from which Kiel equalized once again, 24:24. The home team took the lead of 26:25, then grew it to two goals in the 50th minute, 29:27. The six minutes goal draught gave the opportunity to Kiel to get a four goals lead. Veszprém fought back in the 56th minute, 31:30. The teams went into the last two minutes with a draw, but the tactic drawn on the board by Kiel did not work, David Davis called a time out right away. Veszprém had the opportunity to win, but the final result stayed a draw of 31:31.

 

 
David Davis: Congratulation to my team, these last few days were really hard for us. Everyone was focused. The game was equal, but I am satisfied. This match was good for our sport. We had a really complicated game in offense and defense, but in the end both teams fought good until the end.
 
Andreas Nilsson: Tough game today, like always it is hard to play here. We fought all game. When five minutes left and were down by four we hoped to have a chance to win. Good luck to Kiel and stay healthy.

 

 
Filip Jicha: As David said, this was a match in the highest level. I am satisfied with the performance of my players. Small things decided in the end. From my point of view, we played well in the second half. Veszprém defended very well, so we tried something new. We missed some chances because of Cupara, who had a great day. Veszprém is an opponent of the highest level and this game was good for the spectators. I hope we will continue in this path that we are on.
 
Sander Sagosen: It is always fun to play these kind of games as this is the top of handball. We managed to score a lot of goals in the second half with a good defense. I am sad that we could not win, but Veszprém has a really good team. I hope to play against them once again.
