Telekom Veszprém had to battle THW Kiel for the 3rd place in the EHF FINAL4 2022.

All the fans of Telekom Veszprém and THW Kiel were treated to a very exciting and even first half in Lanxess Arena. The teams had a hard time getting the better of their rivals, as Niklas Landin and Rodrigo Corrales stole the show with excellent saves on both ends. We also have to mention our youngsters, Péter Lukács and Zoran Ilic who both scored their first goals in Cologne – hopefully, many more will follow in the future. In the last 5 minutes of the first half Telekom Veszprém could take control of the game and extended their lead to 4 goals (14-18).

The 2nd half turned out to be even more exciting than the first one, if that is even possible. THW Kiel first equalised in the 50th minute and later took the lead. Kentin Mahe scored from an overtime penalty in order to save to make it 34-34. However, it was Kiel who handled the pressure better during the penalty shootout and won the bronz medal of the EHF FINAL4 2022.

Momir Ilic: – Congratulations to both teams, nobody expected this high tempo, such modern, entertaining handball at this game! I’m proud of my team, everything we achieved this season, however, we are still lacking something in the end, even though we’re on the right track. I wish all the best to Filip and his team!

Filip Jicha: – It is hard to describe my feelings, it was an insane match. Both teams could have won, I have to admit, I wasn’t sure what to expect from my boys. After 50 minutes we improved a lot and Landin produced some excellent saves. I’m proud of these guys, this game was a good commercial for handball. I wish Momo and his team all the best for the future!

Omar Yahia: – Congratulations to Kielce! It was a tough game up until the very end. We made some unexplicable mistakes in the 2nd half, we were very unlucky. We have to be on the same level with the top teams, but we need to learn to play smart in the tough moments.

Bjarte Myrhol: – Congratulations to Veszprém, they put up a good fight! Two weeks ago I was in the office, about to go play golf. To finish my career here in front 20 thousand fans is like a fairytale, much better than it was in Tokyo in the summer. I always wanted to play in Kiel, thanks to the club for making it happen at the age of 40, but now my handball shoes go right back into the trashcan.
