It has become official that from 1 July 2024, Xavier Pascual Fuertes is the head coach of Veszprém Handball Club. The 56-year-old Spanish coach signed a 4-year contract with our club.

Xavi Pascual started his career as a player in Barcelona, then played in several teams. Among others, he participated in Ademar León, Ciudad de Guadalajara and Octavio Vigo. During his career from 1986 to 2005, he achieved his greatest success with Barcelona. With the Catalan club, he won 2 Spanish championships, 1 Spanish Super Cup and 1 Champions League.

He started his coaching career in his hometown in 2009, where he worked until 2021. During this time, he won 11 Spanish championships, 10 Spanish Cups, 11 ASOBAL Cups, 10 Spanish Super Cups and 5 Super Globes. He reached the Champions League final six times with Barca, winning three of them. He was able to lift the most prestigious European Cup with the Catalans for the first time in 2011, when our current sports director, László Nagy, was also a member of the team. He left Barcelona in 2021, then moved to Romania, to C.S. Dinamo Bucuresti, where he celebrated 3 league titles, 2 cups and 2 super cups with the team in 3 seasons. They also reached the final four of the European League in the 2023/24 season, where they finished in 4th place behind Flensburg, Füchse Berlin and Rhein-Neckar Löwen. In addition to the club teams, he managed the Romanian men's national team for two terms, first between 2016 and 2018, and then between 2021 and 2024.
