As we indicated in our statement issued on December 6, a diagnosis regarding Yanis Lenne’s injury can only be established after a comprehensive examination. Since then, the French winger, who suffered a knee injury during the Champions League match against Sporting, has been examined by the doctors of our club as well as those of the French national team, and also by a knee specialist, with conflicting opinions emerging. Based on the medical opinions we consider most decisive, Lenne needs rest and rehabilitation in the coming weeks.

At the same time, our club’s options are very limited during this period: according to international regulations, during national team windows the national team’s medical staff has the final say, while we can only make recommendations. Naturally, we have forwarded our doctors’ opinion to the professional staff working with the French national team. In our view, Yanis needs rest and treatment in the coming weeks, but the final decision (as is customary in other sports, such as football) must be made by them. After the initial examinations, the doctors of the French national team concluded that Yanis Lenne’s knee is fit for sporting activity and that fielding him at the European Championship starting on January 15 would pose no risk.

As a result, Yanis has been included in the French team’s preliminary European Championship squad and will travel to the team’s training camp, where it will be decided whether he is truly ready to play. We trust that a responsible decision will be made, taking into account the medical opinion we have provided—one that serves the long-term interests of everyone involved, including Yanis Lenne, the French national handball team, and One Veszprém.
