Nedim Remili has been here for almost two years, and he is already preparing for the 15th Veszprém-Szeged match. We talked with him about the clash itself and the meaning of it.

The first match of the 2024/25 season against Szeged is coming. What do these clashes mean to you?

I have been in Veszprém for almost two years and have already played 14 times against Szeged. I am aware that this duel means a lot not only to us, but also to the fans, the two cities and the country, as everyone in the Hungarian league follows this game. We know that we are not only playing for ourselves, but also for a lot of fans, which is why I think that this match is more than us. We like the rivalry between the two teams, and we play handball to be able to play in such big games. Saturday will be a very important match, where we will of course push until the last second. We want to play in our own style, smartly, but still hard both in defence and attack. After the international week we have to get back to the kind of game we were playing here before the break. In my opinion, this will not be a problem, as everyone is performing well in the trainings, and I am sure that we are ready for the first derby of the season.

Your first match against Szeged was that thirteen-goal victory in the Champions League. How do you remember that match?

It was a special one for me, as it was not only my first match against Szeged, but also my first Champions League match. It is difficult to relive that day precisely, since, as I have already mentioned, we met each other many times. Moreover, I also played against them twice with Kielce that year. The most important thing is that my record so far in 14 matches is 12 wins and 2 losses. So, if I had to pick a best memory against them, it would be leading against them in the aggregate. However, this derby will be completely different compared to the previous ones, as there have been several changes, I mean the head coach and the players. However, we are also preparing for this, and it is also part of the game. We are really looking forward to playing in the Pick Arena and I am confident that we will be able to bring the two points home to Veszprém.

You have already played a lot of big matches in your career, whether in the national team, PSG or Kielce. Where would you place the Veszprém-Szeged rivalry in the European handball?

It is certain that it is a special duel, as the whole country is paying attention to it, and we can feel it. This is one of the best league matches I've ever played. These games are always full of tension and aggressiveness in their own way. It's true, sometimes we might overdo it a bit, but that's part of the sport and we like it too. The Veszprém-Szeged duels create a lot of memories for us, and I am sure that we will mention them even after our careers. However, I am still too young to think of such things. I just want to enjoy and live the moment. I hope we win on Saturday and have reason to celebrate in the Pick Arena.
