One Veszprém HC delivered a dominant performance in their first home league match of the season, securing a convincing 42–21 victory over PLER-Budapest in Round 3 of the K&H League.
The game started slowly for the home side, with the first goal of the match scored by Mitar Markez for the visitors. Early on, Veszprém had a chance to equalize from the penalty line, but Elísson’s shot was denied by Bősz. The home fans had to wait until the 4th minute for the team’s first goal, when Yehia Hesham broke through and calmly finished. Even after a goal from Elderaa, PLER still held a narrow lead (2–3), making for a tense opening phase.
As the first quarter progressed, Veszprém began to find their rhythm. In the 14th minute, Elísson gave the home team their first lead of the match at 8–7. Though they couldn’t immediately build a large lead, the game gradually swung in Veszprém’s favor. The left wingers continued their strong form – Hugo Descat set the tone earlier in the week, and now Bjarki Már Elísson picked up where he left off.
In the closing minutes of the first half, Veszprém stepped up the pressure. Goalkeeper Andreas Appelgren was rock solid, and Ali Zein capitalized on multiple occasions with long-range goals into PLER’s empty net. By the end of the half, the lead had grown to nine goals. However, a late foul resulted in a two-minute suspension for Zein, meaning Veszprém began the second half shorthanded – despite a commanding 21–12 lead at halftime.
The second half resumed with Veszprém immediately extending their lead to double digits, as Dopjera scored from the opening attack. Appelgren remained in goal and continued his excellent form, while Kránitz came on for the visitors. In the 38th minute, Appelgren made two huge saves in quick succession, underlining his dominance between the posts.
Although Veszprém’s defense showed occasional lapses, the team’s speed and intensity more than compensated. With the score at 30–17 midway through the half, it was clear that the home side had outclassed PLER in every department. Dopjera continued to strike accurately from distance, while Zein and ElDeraa kept the pressure on with constant offensive threats.
Anchored by Appelgren’s consistent goalkeeping, Veszprém maintained control throughout the match. The final minutes brought no surprises – a comprehensive 42–21 victory sealed a strong start to the home campaign for One Veszprém HC.
Sándor Lepsényi Congratulations to Veszprém, I wish them the best of luck in the Champions League and in the domestic league as well. We have already played against Szeged and Veszprém, and for us these matches were more about preparation. I was able to give opportunities to young players and those who usually get fewer minutes. Of course, it would have been better to achieve a closer result, but for us Komló is now the real priority.
